Couples Therapy
embarcing deeper emotional connections
In the journey of a relationship, maintaining a deep emotional connection with your partner is crucial. However, various factors can strain that connection, leaving you feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or stuck in unhelpful patterns.
At Aspen Grove Mental Health, we specialize in couples therapy from a relational viewpoint, helping you rediscover and cultivate the emotional bond that lies at the heart of your relationship. Through our compassionate and collaborative approach, we work together to navigate the complexities of your partnership and create a solid foundation for lasting emotional connection.
Who benefits from couples therapy?
Couples therapy is beneficial for couples at various stages of their relationship. Whether you are newly together, in a long-term partnership, engaged, or married, couples therapy can provide valuable support and guidance. Additionally, couples facing challenges such as communication difficulties, conflicts, trust issues, or life transitions can find great benefit from the therapeutic process. We believe that all couples, regardless of their specific struggles, have the potential to grow, heal, and thrive through couples therapy.

how therapy works
-
Free Consultation
You are welcome to click the link below to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation or dive straight in and schedule your Intake Session. One or both partners can be present for the free consultation.
-
First Session
Your first session will feel different from the rest. We will spend most of this session going over what therapy will look like and gathering information about what has brought you here.
-
Goals for Therapy
We will collaborate together to create a treatment plan with goals that are unique to you and the experiences that have brought you to therapy.
-
Ongoing Sessions
We will continually check in and monitor progress. It can be difficult to say how many sessions are needed to achieve your goals, so this stays an ongoing conversation between the couple and the therapist. Couples sessions most frequently include both members of the relationship but occasionally will include individual sessions as well.
questions you may have
-
Therapy can be the right choice for couples who are seeking support, growth, and a deeper understanding of their relationship dynamics. However, if you are specifically considering discernment counseling to navigate separation or divorce, we can provide appropriate referrals to professionals specializing in that area. Additionally, please note that couples therapy is not suitable in cases where active domestic violence is occurring. In such situations, we recommend individual therapy for both parties to prioritize safety and address the underlying issues.

This is a difficult question to answer as it is unique to every couple. If you have desires or constraints on session amounts, please let your therapist know at your intake session so they can best support your needs.

When seeking additional resources to support your mental health journey, there are a variety of options available. You can explore insightful books, informative blogs written by mental health professionals, and local crisis resources. We recommend the podcast 'Small Things Often,' which is available on Spotify and offers valuable insights for couples. The Gottman Institute (https://www.gottman.com/blog/) is another excellent resource, providing numerous free articles written by licensed therapists. If you're interested in sex therapy, Vanessa Marin Therapy (https://vmtherapy.com/) is a trusted source that actively hosts a YouTube channel and has an engaging presence on Instagram.

Yes, you can definitely utilize insurance for couples therapy. Please refer to our insurance page for more specific details regarding insurance coverage. In couples therapy, one individual is identified as the primary client for insurance purposes and will receive a diagnosis. This does not mean that the therapy focuses solely on that individual; the relationship itself remains the primary focus. However, it's important to note that insurance billing cannot be submitted for both individuals in the couple.

At Aspen Grove, we strive to provide comprehensive care for families by offering multiple services within our clinic. However, to maintain the necessary neutrality and balance in couples therapy, the same therapist cannot serve as both your individual and couples therapist. This ensures that each therapeutic relationship remains separate and allows for a more balanced approach to couples therapy. If you are seeking additional services beyond what we can give, we can provide referrals to trusted professionals in Colorado Springs and Minnesota who can accommodate your needs
